IELTS stands for the International English Language Testing System. It is the world's most popular English Language proficiency test used for higher education or migration purposes. The IELTS test is of two main types; one is the IELTS Academic test which is for undergraduate and postgraduate study applications. The other is the IELTS General Training test mainly for immigration applications for work or for permanent residency applications. There is also the IELTS UKVI test which is used for relocation into the UK. Four modules are tested on the IELTS test namely; Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The test is scored using a band scale ranging from 0 to 9 and the official results are valid for 2 years. You may either write the IELTS on paper or Computer delivered IELTS. However, IELTS on paper is no longer available in Nigeria. In some countries, the IELTS Online option is also available. The test lasts for approximately 3 hours and results are released between 3 and 13 days.

TOEFL iBT®'s is an internet based test with results valid for only 2 years but acceptable in over 30000 organisations worldwide. The test lasts for approximately 2 hours.
The CELPIP (Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program) Tests are the leading general English tests for immigration, citizenship, professional designation, and for admission to universities, colleges, and vocational programs in Canada. There is the CELPIP-General test which is for candidates seeking to relocate to Canada for permanent residency or for professional designation. On the other hand, the CELPIP-LS test is for citizenship application and is only written in Canada. Also, unlike the CELPIP-General test that evaluates Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, CELPIP-LS only assesses Listening and Speaking skills. The CELPIP test is a computer based test and lasts for roughly 3 hours. It uses only Canadian accent in its Listening recordings and score reports are released in 3 to 10 days. The scores are rated from a level M to a level 12 according to the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) levels
The Duolingo English test is a computer adaptive online English language proficiency test English proficiency test that assesses reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. It is acceptable in a number of English-speaking countries in Europe and it's results are valid for 2 years. The test can be written from the comfort of a candidate's home and requires a stable internet connectivity, a well-lit room without distractions, a computer, a webcam and a microphone. Candidate's results are released within 12 hours to 48 hours and the scores range from 10 to 160.
The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), now known as the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT), is a standardized test used by many colleges and universities in the United States and other countries for admissions purposes, assessing a student's readiness for college-level work in reading, writing, and math.
The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is a standardized test used by many graduate schools in the U.S. and Canada to assess applicants' aptitude for graduate-level study, primarily focusing on verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical writing skills.
The Pearson Test of English is a computer-based test which assesses the English language skills of non-native speakers intending to apply for university courses in English-speaking countries. It is mostly acceptable in Australia and New Zealand.
